My Salwar Kameez style

As all my readers know, I LOVE Indian fashion. In terms of fashion, India has been and will always be ahead of the game. The fabrics are high quality and have fantastic variation - you will rarely see the same design twice! The styles of Indian attire are so very flattering to a woman's body - whether it is the saree, anarkali, or salwar kameez.

Salwar kameez is something that I wear day-to-day in India, as well as the West. Because, let's face it - sometimes it's just nice to wear pants! Salwar pants are so comfortable because they have the perfect drape and are also forgiving if you have chubby legs like I do!

I prefer to get all of my Salwar Kameez tailored because then it fits me perfectly and I can instruct the tailor on what neckline I like. This time, I bought about 15-20 new Salwar Kameez and I am in love with all my new outfits.

Here are some of my everyday Salwar Kameez style....

  1. All of them look lovely but the second fourth and the last ones are very pretty.
Even I like to get them tailored because the fitting is really good instead of buying a readymade one and have it altered. The readymade ones do not give me the classy look unlike personalised tailored ones because the entire fabric is cut and stitched using our measurements.
I wish you had posted a pic in the anarkali too!! I also loves the lime green Saree you had posted on diwali. It was just so pretty.
Nowadays anarkali has gone out of fashion I presume. Because the last time shopped I saw all these long tunics up to the ankle and a kind of churidar with it. Kind of like a long straight cut gown. The anarkalis are there too but almost all the mannequins outside the fabric stores were adorned with those long kurta suits. Yesterday I found out that they're called Pakistani suits.

    1. Yes, I noticed now that the anarkali's go all the way down to the ankle - more like a gown. Kind of like a longer Anarkali!

  2. I'm rather liking the pink & black ensemble. (Although they are all GORGEOUS!)
After 14 yrs of living in India & Nepal I still haven't found a decent tailor for my Amazonian figure, 5'10", 46-28-36.
Most of the unstitched suits don't come with enough cloth to make any type of trousers for my long, skinny legs.
Thank heavens for ready made churidars!!!!

  5. Alex,

Love your new Salwar kameez outfits, you look gorgeous in them. I especially like #1, #2, #3 and last one. They all look very nice on you especially since you have a tailor making them. Here in Texas it would cost me too much to have someone make them. Your colors are definitely, red, orange, pink, blue and even green. Like the sandals you have on, they go really nice with the outfits.

    Have a good weekend!

    1. Yes! One time I had a tailor here do it and they charged a fortune! We have a few sewers in our company and sometimes I get them to fix stuff, but not too often because they are always busy.
My sandals are from Aldo :)

  6. 1, 4 and 6 are my faves, I'm partial to paisley designs as you can see. The first one goes very well with your complexion. Do you wear anarkalis ? My husbans claims there are for young girls exclusively. (Padparadscha).

    1. I have only worn an anarkali once but I think any age can wear it. It looks great on a taller person and is so easy to wear in the West

  16. Hello. My husband does business with India and has been invited on Canada-India mission. Never been myself. We have been invited at the end of October to a Dewali party - where they will also, celebrate the business partner birthday. The invite says Indian attire so I went into a Montreal shop and bought a saree and some fabrics to do the blouse. I wonder as it will be cold, what kind of shoes I could wear. Obviously I bought fake discreet jewels - not gold. The saree is nice not too embroidered. But when I saw your outfits - wow, I am so,jealous lol. The invite also, says no gift but I am not sure I should come giftless.
