Sunset at the beach

One of the things I love the most about living in Vancouver is that we have so many beautiful beaches - nine to be exact! And all of them have views of the cobalt blue mountains that are very much like an Empire State building for us.

Once it gets warm enough, our favorite Summertime ritual is to have a picnic dinner at the beach. This is something we do every year, by ourselves, or with family, or friends. We grab a picnic blanket, paper plates, glasses, some sand toys for Maya, and we bring take-out food and eat it on the beach.

We always pick a quiet spot away from everyone, and we always spot seals and otters. It's like a front row seat to the ocean. It's sooooo much better than sitting in our hot apartment and watching tv! The colors of the sunsets are so incredible. We never swim though, because the water is so freezing!

After we finish dinner, we relax and look at the boats while Maya collects sea-shells and explores. It's one of those moments where you can just let her explore free-range in nature.

(Maya's first time at the beach - 7 weeks old - 2012)

We have so many great memories at the beach. When my MIL first stayed with us, we took her and it was one of her favorite activities. Going to the beach now makes me miss her a lot. We also took Maya as a newborn, and then as a toddler learning how to explore.

I'm so excited about this Summer at the beach! Now...if only I can get a tan!

  3. This is so wonderful. Nowadays kids are all about technology, social media and the internet. They don't appreciate the beauty of the world outside four walls. Beautiful pictures :)
